Animals in farming
In this section we explore the animals used in farming by the Romans. This topic, however, separates Pliny from everyday Romans. Residing in the higher classes of Roman society, Pliny could afford to own and manage a farm. Farming was a highly sought after form of passive income that would expand the lives of Roman elites. Being able to write about this topic in itself paints a different image of Pliny as possibly not representative of general Roman culture. The lines created between the rich and poor could be found in the ownership and maintenence of a farm. The elites would manage the resources of the farm while the lower classes would run them. Each example would show how exactly Pliny was shown to run the farm and, thus, be shown to be an elite.
